At its second annual AI Forum this week in Dallas, CNBC gathered enterprise leaders around a blunt question: now that companies are moving AI out of the lab, who is actually in control of the bill. A survey presented at the event found that nearly two-thirds of almost 400 firms had let AI costs materially change a business decision, while hardly any could forecast that spend even though most claimed to be tracking it.

The other thread running through the day was governance. Panelists agreed the plumbing needed to supervise AI - especially autonomous agents that act on their own - is still being built, and that trust and oversight will have to be re-engineered rather than assumed. Cost, security and scale kept circling back to the same gap.

That gap is the whole reason Uprovd exists. Tracking a number is not the same as being able to forecast or govern it, and a cost you cannot predict will eventually make decisions for you. We meter AI consumption as it happens, attribute it to an owner and an outcome, and turn an unpredictable bill into a line the business can plan around before it forces the next hard call.

This is Uprovd's analysis of third-party reporting. Original article linked above.
