CFOs trust AI's payoff — and still can't control the bill
Uprovd Take When CFOs stay bullish on AI while 83% blow the budget, Uprovd meters the spend and ties it to outcomes before confidence outruns control.
Read the original at PigmentPigment’s latest quarterly CFO Index, out this week, surveyed roughly two thousand finance leaders across the US, UK, France and Germany and found a telling split. More than eight in ten said their AI costs had run past what they expected, with consumption-based pricing the main culprit, while only a small minority managed to stay inside budget and a few could not measure the spend at all.
What makes the survey striking is the mood behind the numbers. Confidence in AI’s return stayed high even as the overspending piled up, and the average overrun now outpaces the budget increase these same leaders have penciled in for next year. Enthusiasm, in other words, is climbing faster than the ability to control what AI actually costs.
That is the exact gap Uprovd was built to close. Believing in AI’s payoff is not the same as governing it, and a bill driven by usage will keep springing surprises until someone meters it in real time. We attribute AI consumption to an owner and an outcome, turning an unpredictable line item into one the board can forecast and defend.
